The Greenway in Columbia SC is a Better Road to Travel

Joseph Coupal - Friday, August 12, 2011

When you live in an apartment in West Columbia, SC it is easy to get caught up in the same old routes, the same old recreation.

In that case, check out South Carolina's less traveled roads: greenways. What is a greenway? A greenway is an environmental corridor connecting people to places and nature. It’s a ribbon of green space, paved or unpaved, for the use of recreation and alternative transportation, in addition to preserving and protecting the environment in urban and metro areas. And that is what makes greenways so different.

When in Columbia, South Carolina take the Three Rivers Greenway to get to your destination. Instead of weaving in and out of traffic, take in the fresh air as you stroll along the Congaree, Saluda or Broad rivers. This trail connects Columbia, West Columbia and Cayce, while offering tons of recreational activities including jogging, nature watching, fishing, kayaking and canoeing. While you’re at it, bring along your furry friends, this greenway is dog-friendly, and make a day of the Three Rivers Greenway.

It is Important to have A Renters Insurance Policy

Joseph Coupal - Friday, July 29, 2011

If you live in an apartment in West Columbia, SC it is important to have renters insurance. Obviously, the owners of your apartment community have insurance, but it probably only covers the building not your belongings.

In the unfortunate event that your possessions are stolen or damaged by a fire or severe weather, a renter’s insurance policy will allow you to recover their value. But, also as important is liability insurance with the renter’s policy. If someone is injured during an accident in your apartment, renters insurance will help protect you in the case of a liability lawsuit.

Renters Insurance covers but is not limited to fire or lightning, windstorm or hail, freezing of the plumbing system, and theft.

Many renters believe that the landlord's insurance will cover them. But your landlord's insurance generally only covers the building where you live - not your personal belongings or your liability. Many renters also believe that they don’t need personal liability insurance. But your landlord's policy most likely does not include liability for something that happens in your rented apartment. Without liability coverage, your current and future earnings could be at risk. Renter’s insurance coverage may also provide legal defense costs.

You may think that you don't own very much. But look around you and consider what it would take to replace all that you own. Most of the time, one’s belongings are often worth more than you think.

Living in Columbia, South Carolina you get a city convenient to mountains and beaches, where the weather is always perfect and flowers are always in bloom. Summertime Kids Activities in Columbia, SC

Joseph Coupal - Tuesday, July 05, 2011

Summer vacation is now upon us in Columbia, South Carolina. Sometimes it's hard to come up with different activities to keep the kids happy and the parents from going crazy. As much as your kids will tell you they can't wait for summer, the words "I'm bored," inevitably cross their lips. While children do enjoy the freedom that comes with the summer months, and swimming at the Abberly Village pool is a blast, they still like to have a little structure to their fun. This summer, more than ever, families are trying to stick to a budget while still having fun with their kids.

Ride the Downtown Columbia trolley with your entire family for under a dollar. This excursion is great entertainment for all.

Visit a museum and learn a little more about the South Carolina as well as the world around us. Many of the museums in our area offer free admission.

Are you looking for a way to spend an evening with the kids after work? This canoe trip popularized canoeing in Columbia. It starts at 6:00pm and ends at 9:00pm every Thursday and Friday evening. It’s a marvelous antidote to a stressful day; come back totally refreshed and ready for the next day. The trip starts at the historic Gervais Street Bridge and continues down the Congaree River.

There are plenty of bicycle trails in Columbia as well. Two of our favorites are: the Wheeler Hill Ride, this trail starts at Maxcy Gregg Park and winds through the Shandon and Wheeler Hill Neighborhoods. It is 7.4 kilometers long. And, Wildewood Ride, this ride starts at Polo Road Park. It passes several ponds and a golf course. It is 7 kilometers long.

South Carolina Returns to the College World Series This Weekend

Joseph Coupal - Thursday, June 16, 2011

The 2011 College World Series kicks off on Saturday and Sunday with the eight-team field participating in their four opening contests. A year after taking the 2010 College World Series to win the school's first men's team national title, South Carolina baseball returns to Omaha for the 2011 College World Series.  The Gamecocks will face one of the toughest fields in recent memories.  Six national seeds and top ten ranked, Big 12 champ Texas A&M advanced to Omaha.  So did the Cal Bears.

Cal Bears will open the tournament on Sunday facing off against the Virginia Cavaliers and their four-team opening pod also includes South Carolina and Texas A&M. The winner of the two opening games will face each other while the loser of the two opening contests will also face each other.

Most Carolina fans expected the team to return to the College World Series at the start of the season with a healthy roster, there have been lots of injuries, and the way this team has pulled together and continued to win as guys continue to drop has been amazing.

South Carolina began the transition away from the longball just before the move to the new bats.  We have guys like Christian Walker and Brady Thomas who can quickly jump on any pitcher's mistake, but this team has produced a lot more offense from stringing together hits than relying on the homerun. This team is big believers in advanced stats, they have a tendency to play a little too old school with regards to the sacrifice bunt and even stolen bases, but there is definitely a strong team-wide strikeout to walk ratio.
